The breathtaking Island of Hawaii is home to Kilauea, the most active volcano in the world. The island is a natural wonder that delights even the most discerning senses. With pristine coastlines, awe-inspiring volcanoes, and sprawling white and black sand beaches, it truly is the perfect place for a meditation retreat. Keep your eye out for spouts, breaches, and tail slaps, as our retreat will be happening during the height of humpback whale season, when these gentle giants make their annual winter visit.
Hawaii Island Retreat is our venue, an eco-boutique hotel and wellness spa perched atop an ocean cliff and hidden in the tropical jungle along the northern tip of Hawaii’s Kohala coast. It is a place of intentional peacefulness set among towering evergreens and ocean breezes.
Known for its flavorful, mouth-watering dishes, Hawaiian cuisine is delicious, satisfying and locally sourced. Given its rich soil, fruits and vegetables have bold, mouth-watering flavor you cannot find anywhere else. Get ready for simple cuisine done right.
You’ll be delighted by three delicious buffet style plant-based meals per day to support our meditation retreat—each prepared with care and conscious attention. Fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables from the retreat center’s organic gardens and orchards will nourish your body from the inside out.
Avocados, greens, edible flowers, papayas, and pineapple are always on hand and are supplemented by whatever else is fresh and in season.
Breakfast will feature locally grown and raised fruit, vegetables, and eggs to start your day off right. Perhaps you will enjoy a frittata with rainbow chard and a side of avocado toast on gluten free bread. Or, you may wish to enjoy a stack of freshly prepared gluten free pancakes and a bowl of homemade granola with goat’s milk yogurt. Whatever the chefs create for us, you can rest assured it will be delicious. Accompanied by your choice of fresh juices or heart-warming tea, you will start the day off satisfied.
Lunch changes daily, each day featuring fresh & local vegetarian ingredients in an array of robust soups, salads, sandwiches, and wraps. Lentils, garden loaves and fresh salads from the retreat center’s garden are menu highlights and will nourish you without weighing you down. So will the house-made goat’s cheese (you’re welcome).
Dinner will be our heartiest meal, highlighting flavorful vegetarian ingredients each day. The menu is different each day and may include delicious dishes like gluten free pasta dish with freshly made tomato sauce (complete with basil and tomatoes from the onsite garden) plus dessert (of course).
And if that was not enough, a snack will be served each evening – including fresh fruit, organic nuts, and hot tea.
Meal service starts with dinner on Tuesday, February 7 and ends with breakfast on Sunday, February 12th.
Hotel-style rooms are tastefully decorated in vivid colors—each featuring a different color palette to match the large, antique Saxon prints of tropical flowers hanging on the walls.
Whether you call the blue room, the red room, the yellow room or the purple room your home, you’ll feel comfortable and relaxed in your deluxe accommodations.
Each room features a spacious bathroom, some with a large soaking tub, and all with a separate shower featuring complimentary organic body care products, luxurious linens, and a sitting area. These spacious rooms are 375 - 450 square feet and decorated with turn-of -the-century Hawaiian furniture that matches the charm and appeal of a bygone era.
All of the hotel-style rooms also feature private balconies and chairs, overlooking the fragrant garden or the ocean.
Nestled within a needled ironwood grove near the eco-hotel complex (a short walk from the group room, and right next to the salt-water infinity pool and hot-tub), the seven yurts feature a small sitting area, luxurious bedding, and valley or garden views.
Each yurt has been recently remodeled, and is outfitted with a private toilet and sink. Both indoor and outdoor showers, as well as additional toilets, are available in an adjacent bathroom/dressing room building which also serves the spa and swimming pool.
